4/30 - The Weekend Update

Who would've guessed that "a week or so" would translate to three days! That's right, props to PC Armenia for their speedy turn around! I now know my staging date, location, international flight itinerary, and more details about staging.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

Now I think things are setting in. Yes, yes they are. To clarify, that scream above is a good one. I'm SO EXCITED. I can hardly contain myself!

I learned that my staging (re: Stateside orientation) will be in Philadelphia from June 1-2.
The fact that staging is in such a nearby location is a double-edged sword. On one hand, that's one less flight I'll have, but on the other, being somewhere warm & sunny would've been nice. Staging primarily consists of getting paperwork turned in, meeting fellow trainees, and attending lectures/presentations. On June 3, we all fly to JFK then Vienna, Austria. After a 14-hour layover in Vienna, we fly to Yerevan. Then it all really begins!

In other, non-PC news, the past few days have been really great and I've been in this buzzing good mood because of it all. Here's th break down.

Friday I picked up a somewhat last minute subbing job at one of my old stompin' grounds--the high school where I student taught last fall. It was nice to surprise faculty and catch up with them. Mostly we talked about PC (there's one PCV in the English department). It was even more fantastic to see former students. All my seniors are getting ready to go off to college and the juniors seem to have really matured since the fall. All in all, it was just a lovely day!

Friday night I went to see Guster play a sold out show at Ram's Head Live in Baltimore! Chrysta and I went down early, with the intention of arriving promptly after doors opened at 7, but after dinner, a drink at Tir Na Nog, and heartfelt discussions, we got their a little after 8. No worries though, we saw most of the opening (Good Old War) set. We met up with one of my long-time Tockwogh friends, Kristen, with whom I saw Guster back in our senior year of high school. If that nostalgia wasn't enough, I ran into my former neighbor from Dover whom I haven't seen in years! She happens to be back in Dover as well now, so it looks like I'll have a couple people to hang out with once I move back in with the 'rents. Anyway-- the Guster show was awesome. I haven't listened to them in a while, but I was very moved by a few of the songs, particularly the following. It was the first time in a while that I've teared up at a show.

Saturday (today) I remembered that it's the first weekend in May and therefore Towsontown Spring Festival! I took myself out for the afternoon for some good ol' fashioned people watching, food eating, jewelry browsing, cover-band listening, and book reading up and down the streets of Towson. It was a beautiful day and perfect in just about every way!

Tonight I've been taking it easy. I watched part of Julie & Julia, which I think inspired me to blog it up tonight. That's all for now, though. Good night!
