This is a brief story, but it made my day anyway:
Yesterday I was working with my 7th grade class
on the words until/till, before, and after.
I had convinced my counterpart to let me take the lead on this one. This
meant speaking only in English, trying to scaffold and provide ample examples,
etc. In other words, it was a bit arduous. I’ll skip over the details of the
lesson since that’s not the point of this precious story.
Once the students had figured out the aforementioned vocabulary
words (all on their own!) I decided to write them on the board for them to copy
into their notebooks. I’m not sure why I
thought this was a good idea, since writing and spelling in Armenian is pretty
difficult. Regardless, I managed through it and when I’d written the words -- մինչեւ, առաջ, and հետո, for those
playing along at home – the kids CLAPPED and CHEERED for me. I mean some real hoopin’
and hollerin’. It took me a bit off guard, but was still a nice feeling. I think
I might start cheering like that whenever they spell a word correctly…
